Fishing Pontoon Rental - St. Croix River

Picture this: you're cruising the St. Croix River on a fully-equipped 21-foot pontoon that's already caught more fish than most anglers see in a lifetime. This isn't just any rental boat – it's Ryan's original guide vessel, loaded with years of GPS waypoints marking every honey hole, structure, and secret spot that produces consistent action. We'll have her fueled up and ready to go when you arrive, so you can skip the boat ramp hassles and get straight to what matters: putting fish in the boat. Whether you're targeting the river's famous smallmouth bass or hoping to tangle with a monster lake sturgeon, this top-rated pontoon gives you access to the same proven fishing spots that have made Croix Boys a customer favorite for years.

What to Expect on the Water

This pontoon rental puts you in the driver's seat of a world-class fishing operation. The boat comes pre-loaded with all of Ryan's waypoints – and we're talking hundreds of GPS marks covering everything from shallow walleye flats to deep northern pike haunts. You'll have access to Big Carnelian, the main stem of the St. Croix, or any local lake that's calling your name that day. The pontoon handles like a dream and gives you plenty of room for up to five anglers to spread out and fish comfortably. Don't have your own gear? No problem – we rent quality rods and tackle for twenty bucks each, and these setups are dialed in for the species you're chasing. Choose between a four-hour half-day adventure or commit to the full eight-hour experience. Here's a pro tip: book Ryan for a guided trip first, learn the ropes and hottest spots, then take the boat solo for the second half of your day.

Gear Setup & Navigation

The pontoon comes rigged with everything you need to find and catch fish. The electronics package includes a quality fish finder that'll show you bottom structure, suspended fish, and water temperature – crucial intel when you're working new water. The GPS unit holds all those precious waypoints, but don't worry about getting lost in a sea of dots on the screen. Each mark is named and categorized, so you'll know whether you're heading to a summer walleye spot or a spring smallmouth ledge. The boat's layout maximizes fishing space while keeping everything organized. Rod holders are strategically placed, there's plenty of storage for tackle, and the live well will keep your catch fresh if you're planning a fish fry. Just remember to top off the gas before you bring her back – both Wolf Marina and Stillwater Marina have fuel docks, and it beats paying our seven-dollar-per-gallon fee for returning on fumes.

Species You'll Want to Hook

Lake Sturgeon are the true giants of these waters, and hooking into one is something you'll never forget. These prehistoric fish can live over 100 years and grow massive – we're talking 50, 60, even 70-pound fish that'll test every ounce of your tackle and patience. Spring through early summer gives you the best shot, especially around deeper holes and current breaks. When a sturgeon takes your bait, there's no mistaking it. The fight is pure power, long runs, and stubborn determination that can last 20 minutes or more.

Smallmouth Bass are the St. Croix's bread and butter, and for good reason. These bronze fighters are pound-for-pound some of the strongest fish swimming, and the river produces quality fish year after year. Look for them around rocky points, fallen timber, and current breaks from late spring through fall. A three-pound smallmouth on the St. Croix fights like a five-pounder anywhere else, and the clear water means you can watch the entire battle unfold. They'll crush topwater baits at dawn and dusk, making for some of the most exciting fishing you'll experience.

White Bass run thick during their spawning periods, creating some of the fastest action you'll find anywhere. When you locate a school, it's game on – these aggressive feeders will hammer anything you throw at them. They typically run one to two pounds, but what they lack in individual size they make up for in numbers and attitude. The key is staying mobile and covering water until you find them, then working the school hard before they move on.

Walleye are the table fare champions, and the St. Croix holds plenty of quality fish. Evening and early morning produce the most consistent action, especially around points, current breaks, and deeper structure. The GPS waypoints will put you on proven walleye spots that produce year after year. These fish typically run 14 to 18 inches with plenty of keepers in the mix, and they're absolute perfection in the frying pan.

Northern Pike add the wildcard element to every trip. These toothy predators lurk in weedy bays and ambush points, ready to demolish anything that swims by. They're not picky eaters, but they are explosive fighters that'll test your drag system and keep you on your toes. Pike in the 24 to 30-inch range are common, with the occasional giant pushing 40 inches or better.

Time to Book Your Spot

This pontoon rental gives you the freedom to fish like a seasoned guide without the guide price tag. You're getting access to years of accumulated fishing knowledge stored in those GPS waypoints, plus a boat that's proven its fish-catching abilities day after day. Whether you're a local angler looking to expand your range or a visitor wanting to experience the St. Croix's renowned fishing, this rental puts world-class angling at your fingertips. The boat books up fast, especially during peak season, so don't wait until the last minute. Grab your crew, pack the cooler, and get ready to experience some of the best freshwater fishing the region has to offer.
